This is a good practice for the preparation practical assessment with an introduction to some useful new techniques. I find that students are more enthusiastic with a little competition, so I always tell them in advance that I shall grade their product in terms of yield, dryness and purity.
You need to keep an eye out for solid iodine. It has a habit of being spilt onto bench surfaces with consequent transfer to skin and clothing.
